Sequel to the inferno at the Iyana Mortuary, Abeokuta South Local Government of Ogun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, the electoral body has given a report about the incident.

Naija News reports that the commission’s spokesperson, Festus Okoye in a statement has disclosed that a total of 65,699 uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were destroyed from the incidents.

The arson, which unknown hoodlums reportedly caused also destroyed 904 ballot boxes, 29 voting cubicles, 30 megaphones, 57 election bags, and eight power generators.

Okoye lamented that the building and all movable assets in the INEC office were destroyed by the fire.

He said the incident is a disturbing one citing that a similar attack had happened in Ede’s south local government area, where the INEC office was set also ablaze.

Okoye, expressed worry about the series of attacks on the commission with just about 106 days to the general election, as the movement of materials to its offices has commenced.

He added that the attention of police and other security agencies had been drawn to the incidents.

However, Naija News reported that INEC had recorded another property loss as some unknown hoodlums set one of its facilities in Osun State on fire.

Reports reaching Naija News revealed that the arsonists invaded the commission’s office in Oke-Iresi, Ede South Local Government Area of the state on Thursday and lit it up.

The State Fire Service was said to have responded swiftly to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to other offices.

The incident has been confirmed by Festus Okoye, INEC, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee and the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke.
