Potter Confirms Chelsea Keeper Will Not Play Until After World Cup

Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, has revealed that Kepa Arrizablaga will not play for the Blues until after the World Cup.

The goalkeeper had a foot injury in the Blues’ 4-1 loss to Brighton last weekend and was taken out at halftime as Potter experienced his first managerial loss.

The Spaniard will now miss Chelsea’s next two games, but his chances of being called up to the Spain squad are now hanging by a thread as he joins a growing list of stars who are undergoing treatment with the tournament in Qatar still more than two weeks away.

When questioned about Kepa, who the 47-year-old replaced Edouard Mendy as the number one when he was hired, Potter responded through The Athletic. “Kepa, no,” he said.

‘It’s his plantar fascia, the bottom of his foot. I don’t think he’ll play before the World Cup.”

Under Potter, Kepa made an unexpected comeback to the team and put in a series of strong performances to help his team open the season with a nine-game undefeated streak.

Despite costing the club an astounding £71.6 million in 2018, a world record fee paid for a goalkeeper, he took Mendy’s spot in the starting lineup after losing it months earlier.
