Klopp Reveals Not Signing Tottenham Star Was His "Biggest Mistake"

Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at Anfield has been chosen by former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy as either Xabi Alonso or Steven Gerrard, two of the club’s all-time greats.

The 2022–23 season has not gone well for Jurgen Klopp’s men, having won just two of their first eight Premier League games.

The Reds who lost their last match to Mikel Arteta’s team, Arsenal, are sitting in 10th place in the Premier League standings.

Murphy anticipates Klopp staying at Anfield for some time, but he does predict that Gerrard or Alonso will lead Liverpool in the future.

“I think Steven Gerrard or Xabi Alonso could manage Liverpool, absolutely, yeah. I don’t think either of them have probably done just enough yet to warrant that.

“I don’t think there’s a Liverpool fan on the planet, irrelevant of the start of the season, that would be even thinking about a possible change with Klopp. I don’t see that at all.” Murphy said.

The Former reds also revealed that the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign is going to be a big one for Aston Villa Boss, Steven Gerrard, to implement his styles.

He also noted that the former England player has had a couple of hiccups since he joined Villa from Rangers.

He identified Alonso’s managing career to be at its early stage but stressed that Alonso and Gerrard would one day coach Liverpool.

“I think Alonso’s more in the infancy of his managerial career. So, you know, that’s a hard one to anticipate. I know he had a good first win, but in terms of their stature amongst Liverpool supporters and the legacy they have left, it would be silly not to think that one of them could be in the dugout at Anfield one day,” he said.
