Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday described the late Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II as a wonderful person.

Obasanjo stated this while speaking about his relationship with the late monarch.

The former president in a statement released on Monday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital said he had tremendous respect for the former Head of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Recall that the Queen who ruled for 70 years, died on the 8th of September, 2022.

According to Obasanjo, he was about to leave secondary school when the late Queen first visited the country in 1956.

He further stated that he was fortunate to host Queen Elizabeth as the president of Nigeria during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), in Abuja in 2003.

Obasanjo noted that his relationship with the late Queen, while she was alive, was perfect, adding that she was a great woman who had shown a great example in human relationships.

The former president added, “she carried herself so graciously, so dignified. She was somebody I have tremendous respect for.

“I join the rest of the world to mourn with her family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth (because she was the Head of Commonwealth), and the rest of the world. I also mourn with Prince Charles, who promised to continue from where she had stopped. May her soul rest in peace.”
