An early morning building collapse in Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State has led to the death of at least one person.
The development was confirmed on Saturday by the police public relations officer of Jigawa state command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
According to Adam, the incident occurred at around 5:47 am on Saturday.
Adam in the statement disclosed that the victim died on the spot while others were injured.
The PRO further stated that the police detective rushed the victims to Birniwa General Hospital for examination and treatment.
He said seven persons were confirmed dead at the hospital.
He noted that police did not suspect any foul play as the building that collapsed was built with mud.
The PPRO who had earlier stated that seven people died on the spot, later stated that only one person was confirmed dead.
He added that the six other persons who were thought to have died were only unconscious and are now receiving treatment.
He said a police detective rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to Birniwa General Hospital for examination and treatment.
In a related development, ten persons have been rescued from a canoe capsize in Kafin Hausa local government area of the state.
The canoe reportedly capsized between the Tage and Tafa villages of the local government.
