Police Declare 24-hour Curfew In Kano After Tribunal Judgment

The Ebonyi State command of the Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested some members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that were responsible for the killing of its personnel last year.

In a statement handed down to newsmen on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, the command’s spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, said the suspects were nabbed along Ishieke road in a yellow mini-bus while probably heading for a deadly mission.

The police mouthpiece recalled that some armed men in May 2021, attacked the Divisional Police headquarters in Ugbodo in the Ebonyi local government area of the state where they killed an Inspector and a Sergeant on duty.

Anyanwu said the command has since then deployed its tactical teams to monitor the movement of the hoodlums.

According to him, the personnel recently acted on credible information and intercepted the suspects who were driving in a mini-bus without a registration number.

He said that on sighting the police team, the hoodlums opened fire, but men of the command demobilised their vehicle and arrested some of them while others escaped.

Anyanwu listed the names of some of the arrested alleged IPOB members as Chimezie Emeh, Anthony Joseph Osilame, Peter Egbunike and Ifeanyi Emetu. Others are Longinus Idenyi, Ogbonnaya Neankwo, H Mezie and Eze Nnabuike.

He said the command also recovered some vehicles, including Toyota Corolla LE, Toyota Camry 2002 model, Toyota Camry (Tiny Light) and Toyota Sienna, 2000 model.

According to him, the killers of the police officers were among 20 suspects allegedly working for Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of IPOB.

Sowore Reveals What Nnamdi Kanu Really Wants

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has revealed that all the embattled leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, want is Justice.

The activist cum politician said after attending the trial of Kanu at the Appeal Court in Abuja, that Nigeria as a country is not progressing nor peaceful under President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime because of the torture meted out to the IPOB leader.

The Appeal Court had earlier reserved its judgement on Kanu after his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, who led the delegation of legal practitioners representing the IPOB leader, urged the court to strike out the remaining charges for a lack of credibility.

The court adjourned the matter indefinitely.

“Today, I attended the continued trial of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. I met his lawyers, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Aloy Ejimakor and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, and many others as they concluded arguments asking the appellate judges to quash the remaining charges against Kanu.

“The unjust incarceration, torture, and extraordinary rendition involved in his trial is clearly a reason Nigeria under the Buhari regime may never achieve peace, progress, and prosperity.

“I’ve met Mazi Kanu in person and I understand him well enough to state that what he wants is justice,” Sowore said after the court proceedings.
