Twenty-one thousand police personnel have been deployed to Osun State to monitor and ensure the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Ahead of the poll, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, during a meeting with stakeholders of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the personnel would take charge of security and protect electoral materials.

Naija News understands that the meeting was held in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The IGP said the deployment of the personnel would send a strong warning to electorates and politicians who might have negative motives.

He said it will also inform citizens that the government was ready to make democracy work and assured the residents of the state that government will provide a conducive electoral environment for a peaceful election.

He warned trouble makers that irrespective of their status they would be dealt with by the law.

Nobody will be allowed to derail the electoral process and no stone will be left unturned in prosecuting those who would be found wanting,” Baba warned.

Meanwhile, the Spokesman of the Osun All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial campaign council, Sunday Akere has denied the mobilisation of thugs to disrupt Saturday’s election in the state.

This comes after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party alleged that APC has mobilised thugs in various parts of the State in readiness for the election.

A statement on Monday signed by the Osun PDP Chairman, Caretaker Transition Committee, Akindele Adekunle, disclosed that the thugs imported from Lagos State were already lodged in various hotels in the State and another very close to the Governor’s office in Abere, Naija News reports.

Responding to the allegations, Sunday Akere said the party is not known for violence but renowned for organizing proper elections and wooing residents to vote for Oyetola.

He added that the APC gubernatorial candidate does not engage in frivolities like thuggery.
