2023: APC Confirms Date To Officially Unveil Shettima As Tinubu's Running Mate

Muhammed-Bello Buhari, a public affairs commentator has identified religion as the major problem with the Tinubu-Shettima ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Sunday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, in Daura, Katsina State, announced former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Following the announcement, Nigerians home and abroad have continued to express their reactions regarding the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

In a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Buhari said Tinubu made the right choice by picking Shettima, who is a North Easterner as his running mate.

He opined that Tinubu’s only offence is being a Muslim from the South and selecting a Muslim running mate.

Buhari, therefore, said that only if Tinubu is a Christian, his ticket would’ve been the most qualified ticket in terms of fairness and unity.

He wrote: “If unity, sense of belonging, fairness, and justice are what we preach, After 8 years of the North occupying the presidency, It should move to the South.

“And the North East or North Central should produce the VP since both never had a shot at the presidency.
But for the purpose of returning to power at all costs, PDP fielded Atiku.

“Neglecting the South. And Atiku selected Okowa from the SS thereby neglecting the SE that never had a shot at the presidency. So there’s nothing fair about the Atikulated.

“Same goes for the aspiration of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Another North West after another? No.

“The Obedient too. Though Obi being a South Eastern already satisfies the principle of fairness since the South East never had a shot at the presidency too. But he should’ve selected his running mate from the North East or North Central for fairness and not the North West.

“Tinubu is from the South. It’s fair enough. His running mate is from the NE. This is fair as well since the NE never had a shot at the presidency. The only problem is religion. Tinubu’s only offence is being a Muslim from the South and selecting a Muslim running mate.

“If and only if Tinubu is a Christian, his ticket would’ve been the most qualified ticket in terms of fairness and unity.
But I’ll still qualify it as the best notwithstanding. He got the South-North balance. And accommodated the North East in his ticket.

“The Atiku/Okowa, Obi/Baba-Ahmed, and even the RMK does not have that balance based on geopolitical zones.
Only Tinubu has that. His only problem is religion.

“So nobody, I repeat nobody supporting any of these candidates should have the audacity to be shouting fairness and a sense of belonging simply because BAT selected Shettima.

“You don’t have moral standing as well. Preach to your party and candidates to embody that first before preaching to another. Charity begins at home they say. And he who comes to equity must come with clean hands.”
