Reactions As Tribunal Sacks Adeleke As Osun Governor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Osun State governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke has called for the re-introduction of community policing as a way of curbing the growing insecurity in the land.

He made the call on Sunday while speaking during the Osun State governorship debate programme organized by Channels TV.

He promised to promote community policing if elected Governor, adding that until the national assembly approves state policing, it would be wrong to implement it because it’s a constitutional matter.

According to Adeleke, most Nigerians can’t afford weapons to protect themselves even if approval is given for such and therefore stressed that community policing and neighbourhood watch which worked so well in the past will be a good option to curb growing insecurity.

He said: “Nigerians don’t even have the money to buy weapons. I will promote community policing.

“When I was growing up in Ede, we had neighborhood watch, which alerts neighbours of any stranger and protect the area.

“Let’s bring it (community policing) back to attack insecurity in our neighborhoods. State police is a constitutional matter and we don’t want to go against it until the senate amends the constitution for us to have the state police.”
