Top ISWAP Commander Surrenders To Nigerian Army

A top Commander of the Islamic State of the West Africa Province (ISWAP), Musa Mani, has surrendered to the troops of the Nigerian Army.

Naija News learned that Mani surrendered to the troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) following intensified joint operations on the fringes of the Lake Chad.

According to Counter Insurgency Expert, Zagazola Makama, the ISWAP commander surrendered to the troops in Damasak and Malam Fatori villages in the Lake Chad region.

He said Mani was the Commander of Hisbah Militant (civil police), who was in charge of supervising the activities of the insurgents with a view to ensuring right conduct.

The suspect, who hails from Diffa in Niger Republic, was also in charge of controlling logistics supplies, taxes and levies being paid by fishermen and farmers in the Lake Chad.

Mani confessed that the ongoing offensive by troops of Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Lake Sani was behind his decision to escape and surrender.

“The suspects told troops that dozens of fighters had died while many have escaped due to the fear of being killed.

“However, a Preliminary investigation revealed that he is a high profile member of the terrorist group. The suspect is currently undergoing profiling in troops’ custody,” Makama said vis his Twitter page on Saturday.

In a related development, the Troops of the MNJTF have killed scores of ISWAP terrorists including a top Commander Habu Mukhtadah during a fighting clearance operation on the fringes the Lake Chad.

It was learned that the terrorists were neutralised at Tumbun Dilla, Tumbum Jamina and Tumbun Rago on the fringes of Kukawa Local Government Area between 27th and 28 May 2022.
