A 33-year-old man identified as Seun Sowemimo has been sentenced to a one-year jail term by an Abeokuta Magistrate Court for attempting to steal from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The man was sent to jail on Friday by the Magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun without an option of fine.

It was gathered that Sowemimo was arraigned in court on a two-count charge of theft and causing breach of peace. He pleaded guilty to both charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare had earlier told the court that Sowemimo committed the offences which contravened the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006 on April 1 by scaling the fence into the compound of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta with the intent to steal.

The intruder was however caught by one of the guards on duty.

In her ruling, the Magistrate said the case has been proven beyond reasonable doubt by the prosecutor and the man is guilty as charged.

Meanwhile, the widow of Deacon Francis Ogunnusi, of Evangelical Church Winning All, Abeokuta, Abidemi who slumped and died on the altar while preaching has on Thursday narrated how helplessly she watched her husband when the unfortunate incident happened.

Naija News reports that the late Deacon, Chief Francis Oluwole Ogunnusi who was the Baale of of Onikoko community, near Panseke area of Abeokuta was condemning the act of ritualists when he suddenly slumped and died.

The distraught widow who spoke to newsmen in Abeokuta said she was shocked to see her husband hit the ground with microphone in his hand.

She added that she joined a few other pastors to pray for his restoration while he was being taken to a nearby hospital.
