Naira Crisis: Details Of APC Governors' Meeting With Emefiele Emerge

Ahead of their National Convention slated for March 26, governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet on Tuesday in Abuja to discuss the zoning arrangement for the party’s elective positions.

Naija News understands that the governors called the emergency meeting to address a list of all national positions along with the geo-political zones to occupy them which was released last week Wednesday.

Recall that the list was published in the media after the governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja last week Tuesday.

Following the release of the list, it was learned that some governors have opposed the sharing of the positions and the regions that would occupy them ahead of the party’s convention.

Speaking with TheCable, a Northern Governor said some of his colleagues have rejected the widely-publicised list because it does not reflect the outcome of the meeting with the president.

He stated that the only thing discussed at the meeting was that the party should adopt the consensus method to pick the National Chairman and that the position should go the North-Central.

The governor added that the issue of the zonal congresses scheduled for March 12 will be also be discussed by the APC governors at the meeting.

He said. “The only thing the president said at the meeting was that we should adopt the consensus method to pick the National chairman and that the position should go the North-Central. That was all. Nobody discussed any other position.

“If you noticed, nobody signed the list that is going round in the media. It was not attributed to anybody. Governor Nasir el-Rufai said the north and the south would swap positions, but the list is not even reflective of this.

“Under a swap arrangement, the practice is North-East for the South-East, North-West for South-West, and North-Central for South-South, and vice-versa. That is why the chairman will come from North-Central since it was South-South the last time out. And that is the only thing we have agreed on so far.

“If it is a swap, the National Secretary should come from the South-East, not the South-West as the list suggests, because the previous national secretary was from the North-East.
