A former House of Representatives member in the First Republic, Mukhtar Adnan, has died at the age of 95.

Naija News reports that until his death, Adnan was the District Head of Dambatta and the Sarkin Ban Kano.

In a post on its social media handle on Friday, Dambatta youth group announced that the monarch died in the early hours of today, December 3, 2021.

According to a family member who spoke with Daily Trust, the late lawmaker’s funeral prayer will hold later on Friday.

It was gathered that the late Adnan was appointed as the first Commissioner of Education in Kano state in 1968 and appointed as Sarkin Bai in 1954 to succeed his father.

Having served the Kano Emirate Council for 63 years in different capacities, the late monarch was instrumental in the selection of five Emirs of Kano.

Adnan was involved in the coronation of Emir of Kano Muhammadu Inuwa (1963), Emir of Kano Ado Bayero (1963-2014), Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II (2014-) and the current Kano state Emir Aminu Ado Bayero in 2020.

He was also the longest-serving member of the Emirate Council since its establishment in the 19th-century having served as District, Councilor, and Kingmaker.

Meanwhile, the former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress in Kano State did not come to him as a surprise.

According to Kwankwaso, the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje is responsible for the crisis due to his alleged selfish attitude.

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in an interview with BBC said he knew there would be a crisis in the APC in the state due to the internal wranglings.

The former Governor further stated that the crisis in the party got deep following a sense of selfishness, winner takes all attitude and impatience of Ganduje.

He likened the situation to a Hausa proverb that can be closely translated as “no matter how far a lie can go, truth must prevail.”
