Arsenal vs Southampton: Gunners To Miss Three Key Players

Arsenal will not be able to call on at least four of their key players for their Premier League opening game against Brentford.

Naija News understands while three of the players are out due to injury, the fourth player is negotiating a deal with another club.

The Gunners will be playing away to Brentford by 8pm tomorrow evening and Manager, Mikel Arteta will be without the services of Thomas Partey, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Joe Willock.

According to a statement on the website of the North London club on Thursday morning, Arteta said “there were no injury issues from the friendly match at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.”

But Partey “sustained an injury to ligaments in his right ankle during the friendly match against Chelsea on August 1. Thomas continues to be assessed and is expected to be back in training by the end of August.”

Eddie Nketiah also “sustained bruising to his right ankle during the friendly match against Chelsea on August 1. Eddie continues to be assessed and is expected to be back in training in early September.”

Gabriel Magalhaes is back with the squad but will “be back in training by early September.”

Joe Willock however is negotiating personal terms with Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arizabalaga was the hero of the night as Chelsea defeated Villarreal to win the 2021 UEFA Super Cup.

Naija News reports that victory on Wednesday night gave The Blues their first UEFA Super Cup win since 1998.

The London based club had looked on course for the trophy after taking the lead early in the first half from a Hakim Ziyech goal.

But Villarreal responded in the second half when Spaniard, Gerard Moreno pulled them back into the game.
