Protesters Burn Police Station In Niger State As Six People Are Kidnapped

Angry youths on Monday burnt down a Police station located in Gauraka, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

This comes after an attack by gunmen on Angwan-Wazobia community during which time six locals were reportedly abducted by the attackers.

The development has been confirmed in a statement by the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun.

It will be recalled Naija News had earlier reported that protesters blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway on Monday morning to express their displeasure over kidnappings in the area.

The protesters blocked the Abuja – Kaduna highway to protest the incessant cases of kidnapping in the community, bringing a total standstill to vehicular movement.

While confirming the attack on the police station, the Police PRO noted that the command had deployed operatives in the area to restore calm in the area.

He said “Niger State Police Command wishes to confirm that today being 24th May 2021 at about 0300hrs, unknown gunmen attacked the residents of Angwan-Wazobia in Gauraka area of Tafa LGA where about six persons were abducted.

“Teams of policemen were mobilised to the scene and efforts to rescue the victims are being intensified.”

He alleged in the statement that it was the protesters who blocked the Abuja-Kaduna expressway that also attacked and razed the police station in Gauraka.

“The miscreants later extended the protest to Gauraka Police outpost, vandalised and set it ablaze,” he added.

The Niger Police PRO further appealed to parents and community leaders to prevail on their children and wards to desist from engaging in acts of public disturbance.

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium at the Ile-Epo area of Lagos on Monday following attempts by a mob to burn the local police station.

The station, situated inside the market, became a target for the rampaging crowd after a yet-to-be-identified cop allegedly shot a motorcyclist.

It was gathered the policeman arrested the motorcyclist for allegedly flouting the Traffic Law but went further to demand N30, 000 to release the victim.
