Northern Senators Forum Announce New Chairman, Executives

Hon. Justice Salisu Abdullahi has been appointed as the Acting Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Naija News reports that his appointment was confirmed by the Nigeria Senate on Wednesday following the consideration of the report of the screening carried out by the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

Speaking on the appointment, the Chairman of the Senate panel, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who presented the report, said that the panel while carrying out scrutiny on the nominee did not receive any objection to the effect.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, called for a division after the consideration of the report and the majority of the senators supported Abdullahi’s confirmation. Request for his confirmation was contained in a letter read on the floor during plenary by Lawan on Tuesday.

Naija News understands that Abdullahi’s appointment as the acting Chief Judge is coming after the retirement of his predecessor, Hon. Justice Ishaq Usman Bello, who attained the mandatory retirement age of 65 years on January 5, 2021. Abdullahi, being the most senior Judge on the Bench of the High Court of the FCT, was appointed as the acting Chief Judge of the Court on January 6, 2021, before his eventual nomination by Buhari.

Meanwhile, hoodlums on Tuesday attacked and set ablaze the Federal High Court located in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Naija News reports that the fire set by the attackers using fire bombs affected the library and security posts of the building.
