Boko Haram: Reps Intervene As Pastor Bulus Yikura’s Execution Draws Near

Borno: How I Survived Boko Haram Captivity - Pastor Yikura

The Federal Government has been urged to consider rescuing Pastor Bulus Yikura whose execution day has been declared by the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists.

The House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 2, following a motion of concern raised by Mr Ahmad Jaha, a lawmaker representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in Borno State, expressed worries over the Thursday deadline issued by the insurgents to execute the Christian clergy.

Naija News understands that Pastor Yikura had been in the custody of the deadly group since December 2020.

Boko Haram top leader, Abubakar Shekau, had on February 24, 2021, issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to secure the release of Yikura or have him dead in their hand.

It was, however, unclear if Shekau and his men had made any demand before issuing the deadline.

Reacting to the Thursday deadline at the green chamber yesterday, Jaha said, “The House is worried by the continuous closing of the one-week period given by the insurgents, which expires on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

“The House is concerned that at the expiration of the deadline, anything can happen to Pastor Bullus Yikura.”

The House, therefore, resolved to, “intimate the Federal Government to do everything possible to secure the release of the victim before the deadline.”

Meanwhile, reports have emerged earlier that the Chibok community in Borno State, including residents, family, and church members of Pastor Bulus Yakuru have contributed money as a ransom and plans to meet Boko Haram factional leader, Abubakar Shekau, to secure the life of the pastor.

Pastor Yakuru of EYN Church of the Brethren was abducted on 24 December 2020 when terrorists attacked Pemi Village in Borno State and killed no fewer than seven people, Naija News reports.
