Obi Reveals Reason Behind Nigeria’s Stagnancy

Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2019 general elections, Peter Obi, on Wednesday said Nigerians is collapsing because many incompetent people were recruited in positions.

The former Anambra State Governor stated this when he commissioned the Constructed Internal Road Phase 2 in Isiokpo, Ikwere Local Government Area of Rivers State alongside the state Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Obi said, “The reason Nigeria is not working today is that people have been recruited based on sentiments.”

He said, “if we have to recruit you to be local government chairman, governor, vice president, president, and minister, it must be based on capacity and competence, which are viable not what we are doing now and the country is collapsing”.

The elder statesman noted that accountability in government is very important in determining good governance and to build the trust of the people.

He appreciated Rivers State Governor for the projects in the state, he called on people who have been appointed into positions to give their best.

Meanwhile, the federal government of Nigeria has disclosed that it is looking at borrowing from unclaimed dividends and dormant bank deposits to finance the 2021 budget.

This was disclosed in Abuja on Tuesday by the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed during the virtual public presentation of the 2021 budget figures.
