The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday maintianed that former President Goodluck Jonathan will not join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on a television programme, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said there is no space in the ruling party for Jonathan.

He denied reports that the former president was plotting to join the APC in order to contest in the 2023 general elections.

According to the PDP spokesperson, the main opposition party was not also bothered by the recent defection of Governor David Umahi to the APC.

He said: “Why should we be bothered about people who are working on innuendos and are claiming they are working. Where is the action?

“Because some governors went to visit (former) President Goodluck Jonathan on his birthday, then, it is concluded that he has joined APC?

“For me, there are many things I cannot say in the public but I want to assure Nigerians that former President Goodluck Jonathan is politically savvy enough to know he has no space in the All Progressives Congress.”

There have been speculations that the former president, who was ousted from office in 2015, is considering a return to power in 2023. The insinuation was further heightened after some governors of the ruling APC paid him a courtesy visit during his birthday celebration last month.

The visit has also become an issue of debate between the APC and the main opposition party with both parties trading words over the implication of the visit.
