Oyo: ZLP Threatens To Unseat Gov Makinde Over Unfulfilled Promises

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been threatened of losing his seat come 2023 for allegedly failing to meet up with his promises.

According to a statement by the Oyo State chapter of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, the governor disappointed himself for failing to fulfil the promises he made to the party a few days to the 2019 gubernatorial election.

Reports had it that Makinde emerged the governor os Oyo State in 2019 with the support of ZLP and some other political parties who joined head together to defeat the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Naija News understands that Makinde had contested and won the 2019 election under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was alleged that a former Governor of Oyo State, Rasidi Ladoja in 2019 convinced and requested that the ZLP candidate, Barrister Sharafadeen Alli, African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate, Barrister Olufemi Lanlehin and Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN) and some other politicians in the state should throw their support for his candidate, Seyi Makinde to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adebayo Adelabu in the March 9th 2019 election.

However, the political parties have lamented that Makinde whom they supported for his promises has failed to fulfil the same even months after becoming the state governor.

Speaking on Makinde’s failed promises, ZLP Chairman, Comrade Wole Abisoye said he did not disappoint their party, but himself. He added while addressing party members at the Oyo South Senatorial meeting of the party held in Ibadan on Tuesday, September 1 that the party is ready to unseat Makinde in 2023.

He said, “Makinde disappointed himself for not honouring our agreements. The man who disappointed us disappointed himself by not fulfilling the promises. So, we have to move on. Life must go on. We have what it takes to unseat him in 2023.

“It will not be too long. People are still coming to the party. We have a structure on the ground. We are organising ourselves to defeat him. After this Oyo South meeting, we will organize for other senatorial zones in the state.
