President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has been praised by the Nigeria opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State for its commitment in curbing insecurity in the state.

The party in a statement made available to newsmen at the state capital, Gusau, on Tuesday, May 26 through its secretary, Hashimu Modomowa, applauds the president for showing interest in battling banditry, including other crimes in the state.

Hashimu in the statement condemned recent remarks by the state Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperative, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, which alleged that President Buhari’s administration has shown less interest in fighting banditry in the state.

Naija News understands that Abubakar had earlier accused the federal government of focusing on Coronavirus pandemic in the state, rather than addressing insecurity.

Reacting to the above submission, PDP noted that the commissioner’s statement could result in a serious misunderstanding between the federal government and the state.

PDP in her commendation on the federal government effort in the state pointed that it has done fairly well in clubbing banditry, among other crimes in Zamfara.

“This includes the establishment of 1 Brigade of Nigeria Army, 207 Quick Response Group of the Nigeria Airforce and Joint Task Force (JTF) under Operation Hadarin Daji” NAN quote Hashimu saying.

Hashimu further appreciates the federal government for approving Zamfara State government’s demand in reviving mining activities in the state.

According to him, the move would go a long way in reducing crime by providing job opportunities to the teaming youths of the state.

“the government and people of the state would continue to appreciate the federal government’s commitment in containing armed banditry and menace of COVID-19 pandemic,” PDP secretary added.

Meanwhile, Naija News had reported earlier that the Kaduna State Government led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai has extended COVID-19 lockdown in the northern state by another two weeks amid Coronavirus in Kaduna.
