Nnamani Condemns Fulani ‘Herdsmen’ Activities In South-east

Fulani Herdsmen Reportedly Kills 100 In Benue

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has condemned the killing of Igbos in the South-east by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The lawmaker was reacting to the recent killings in the South-east, the latest being his constituency.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Senator Nnamani (PDP-Enugu East) described killings in Igbo land as barbaric.

He also expressed concern over the recent murder of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu and a pregnant woman, Regina Mba, by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.

“I condemn in totality the odious and dastardly acts and extend my heartfelt commiseration to the families of the victims,” the former Enugu governor said.

Nnamani also hailed Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for taking steps to curb the rate of killing in the state.

He commended the governor for conveying an emergency security meeting and holding consultations with traditional rulers, leaders of autonomous communities and other relevant groups and stakeholders on the disturbing issue.

The Senator said he was satisfied with the reorganisation and equipping of neighbourhood watch groups and the recruitment of 1,700 forest guards in line with the resolution of the South-East Governors Forum.
