Naija News had reported earlier that Sowore, a pro-democracy activist posted a tweet on his arrest at 1:25 am on Saturday, August 3.

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and convener of Revolution Now, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS). The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has described the ‘Revolution Now’ movement pioneered by Omoyele Sowore as an act of treason and terrorism. Naija News reports that the police gave this description in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Frank Mba, on Saturday, August 3, a day Sowore was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Twelve suspected cases of Ebola virus were detected Saturday in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Congolese Presidency announced Saturday. “A total of 12 people from a few peripheral centres (in Goma) following the alert protocol given by the response team are under review,” said a statement from the presidency.

Argentina and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has been banned from international football for three months after claiming the Copa America was “corrupt”. According to BBC, Messi was also fined $50,000 (£41,121) by Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation.
