The governor of Akwa Ibom State, south-south Nigeria, Udom Emmanuel, has cast his vote at the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly elections in his state.

Naija News reports that the governor cast his vote alongside his wife, Martha, at exactly 9.23.

The election is taking place in thirty-one (31) Local Government Areas (LGAs) and four hundred and ninety-three (493) wards in the state.

In the build-up to the election, Governor Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, popped up clearly as a top contender for the office of the governor.

Forty-five (45) candidates are vying for the post of a governor, 331 candidates are running for the House of Assembly. There are 2.11 million Registered voters in Akwa Ibom.
