Presidential Candidate Drags Buhari, Atiku To Court

The presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement, Usman Ibrahim-Alhaji has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to court.

Naija News reports that Ibrahim-Alhaji dragged the politicians to court for allegedly spending more than the law requires on their election campaigns.

Ibrahim-Alhaji urged the court to invoke Section 91(2) of the Electoral Act, 2010 to nullify the participation of Buhari and Atiku in the February 23 presidential election.

Ibrahim-Alhaji maintained that Buhari and Atiku had violated the Electoral Act 2010 on the grounds that they spent over N1 billion each as campaign expenses.

The presidential candidate of the party said that he was unable to serve Atiku and Buhari the court papers because they both have tight security in their houses and urged the prayed to the court for an order of substituted service on the two major defendants tat will allow him serve the duo through the legal departments of their respective parties.

In his ruling, the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed granted the application for substituted service and adjourned the matter until March 26..

The APC, PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission are also named as defendants in the suit.
