The Osun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Emmanuel Attah, have alleged some some local government chairmen of not releasing the imprest meant for the scheme from the state government.
Attah made this known during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch B Stream II corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede in Osun State on Thursday.
Attah, who stated that there is no justification for any Local Government Chairman to withhold the money released to the scheme by the governor, Rauf Aregbesola. He urged the state governor to look into the abnormally.
He said some of the council chairmen released theirs to the NYSC but some others did not, saying this was affecting the smooth running of the offices at the local government level.
He said, “Mr Governor sir, I am constrained to bring before you, the attitude of some of your local government executive chairmen.
“We are bringing the case to you to take immediate action because the NYSC is being shortchanged by these local government chairmen.
“The monthly imprest that are supposed to accrue to the NYSC local inspectors for running the offices are not being given to them.
“Why some council chairmen are remitting theirs to the scheme at the local government level, some deliberately refuse to release money which had been released by Mr Governor to cushion the hardship the scheme is going through.
“We have lost confidence in them and we are bringing it before you to take action because we can no longer bear it.”
Mr. Mudasiru Hussain, the Acting Secretary of the state, who spoke on behalf of the governor admonished the corps members to inculcate the spirit of service, saying that was the only way the nation could develop.
The governor also advised them to shun get rich-quick syndrome and embrace the virtues of diligence, hard work and integrity.
Aregbesola, therefore, urged them to shun all forms of gratification and inducement capable of marring the credibility of the 2019 general election and destroying the collaboration between the Independent National Electoral Commission and the NYSC.
