The Yobe state government has announced the closure of the Government Girls Science and Technical College located in Dapchi, Yobe State until further notice.

This follows the attack on the school which according to the federal government, has left 110 students of the school missing after a suspected Boko Haram attack on Monday.

The Yobe state commissioner for education, Mohammed Lamin, said the school would remain shut until the girls are in the right frame of mind to return to school, Punch reports.

“The government girls school in Dapchi has not reopened. It’s not feasible to reopen the school in the current situation.”

“We still have over 100 girls that are unaccounted for. The other girls that were found are not in the right frame of mind to return to school. They are still in trauma,” he said.

The recent Dapchi attack has been likened to a similar Boko Haram attack on Chibok school girls in Borno state in 2014 in which more than 200 girls were kidnapped.

Naija News recalls the federal government on Sunday, admitted 110 of the 906 students of the Dapchi college are currently unaccounted for, with many fearing they have been abducted by members of the Boko Haram sect.

The Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidam has also blamed the attack on the withdrawal of troops from the area, claiming the attack occurred barely a week after the Nigerian Army withdrew its troops from the area.
