Nigerian Producers Giving Artistes A Run For Their Money

It is quite expected that the saying would be “Artiste is to singing, as producer is to producing” therefore, when a new song is released, fans expect the person behind the track to be one of their favorite artistes, not a producer.

But recently, producers have been the ones in front of the microphone in the studio, and not behind the glass frame making and correcting beats.

But who says producers can’t sing? One thing certain about the Nigeria music industry, talent runs overflow.

Although producers like Don Jazzy and Tekno have been singing for a while, it feels good to know that other producers are stepping up and giving fans vibes on vibes on tracks.

A few months ago, we saw Pheelz aka “Pheelz Mr. Producer,” the ‘Rhythm and Cool and Young” producing maestro, feature Nigerian artiste Bnxn fka Buju on a track he dubbed “Finesse”. “Finesse” peaked at No. 1 on the Nigeria Apple music Top 100 charts and maintained that position for some time as well.

Young Jonn teamed up with Afrobeats king, Davido on “Dada” and it was indeed one for the speakers.

One can rightly say that producers look now to be bursting speakers as they are now, quite surprisingly, utilizing their voices, making fans marvel.

With the emergence of producers taking the stage, maybe it’s time to expect more front row sounds from them and not the much known underground strings they pull to ensure tracks they produce are pleasing to the ears of fans. We’ll see how that goes.
