The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu has resigned from the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari following the directive of the President on Wednesday calling on ministers with political ambitions to resign on or before May 16, 2022.

President Buhari gave this directive during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

The resignation of Onu was confirmed by sources within the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Ministry of science and technology.

The source in a chat with Punch disclosed that the minister has indeed dropped his resignation.

According to the source, “The minister was at the office of the SGF to drop his resignation. That was expected seeing as the president asked that they all should resign.”

Recall that Onu declared his presidential intention under the All Progressives Congress on May 6th.

Onu has joined the minister of state for education, Emeka Nwajiuba whose resignation was announced by the President during the FEC meeting and the Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio who resigned on Wednesday night.

Naija News reports that his resignation was confirmed on Wednesday night by his spokesperson, Jackson Udom.
