The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has resigned from President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

Naija News reports that his resignation was confirmed on Wednesday night by his spokesperson, Jackson Udom.

The Minister has resigned. He has submitted his resignation letter to the SGF. We are waiting for him at the ICC, where he is coming to submit his nomination form,” he told The Nation.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday directed members of his cabinet with political ambition to submit their resignation letters on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

Buhari gave directives during the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed revealed this while  addressing State House Correspondents at the end of the FEC meeting.

Following Buhari’s directive, the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, became the first cabinet member to resign.

The Ministers affected include, Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu; Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami who has presidential ambition under the All Progressives Congress.

Others are the Minister of State  Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for the governorship position in Abia State, the Minister of Women Affairs, and Paulline, who declared her ambition to contest for the senatorial seat in Plateau State.

The only person not affected by the directive is the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who is an elected official.
