Akeredolu Imposes 24-Hours Curfew In Parts Of Ondo State

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has imposed a twenty-four-hour curfew on Igbara-Oke, the headquarters of Ifedore Local Government Area.

A statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde disclosed the curfew was imposed as a result of the violence that engulfed the area.

The violence, Naija News understands was caused by a protest following the outcome of the councillorship bye-election in the area.

Governor Akeredolu has now in the wake of the violence which erupted, ordered that a 24-hours curfew be imposed on the area until further notice.

The Governor’s order in a statement titled ‘Curfew Imposed on Igbara-Oke’ reads: “Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN has ordered the imposition of a twenty-four hour curfew on Igbara-Oke, headquarters of Ifedore Local Government Area of the State.

“This order is with immediate effect.This is sequel to the violent dimension of what was initially considered a peaceful protest in the town following the outcome of a Councillorship bye-election.

“All security agencies are urged to enforce this order to the letter. In the same vein, Traditional Rulers, opinion leaders and all persons of goodwill are enjoined to rein in their wards as non-compliance with this curfew order shall not be tolerated.”

Meanwhile, the Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said it was investigating the shooting of a man near its office in the state.

It was gathered that the labourer identified simply as Nwa-Aba was urinating opposite the office of the corps in Calabar, the state capital.

Naija News understands that the officer who fired a gun at the 32-year-old man is yet to be identified at the time this report was given.

It was reported that Nwa-Aba was shot twice in his waist while relieving himself about 50 metres away from the NSCDC office.
