A team of policemen in Benue State have reportedly apprehended three persons who are allegedly in connection with the assassination attempt on Governor Samuel Ortom.

Naija News had reported how gunmen attacked the governor’s convoy while on a visit to a farm on Saturday at Tyo Mu along Makurdi-Gboko road. A shadowy group, the Fulani Nationality Movement had claimed responsibility for the attack on the Benue state governor.

In a statement on Sunday, signed by one Umar Shehu, the group said that a technical error aided the governor’s escape, adding that he would not escape next time.

However, reports reaching this online news platform at this time confirmed that three suspects in connection with the attack have been arrested by the police.

Ortom’s Security Adviser, Col Paul Hemba (rtd) who disclosed the development said the three persons arrested were Jukun fishermen. Naija News understands that the governor’s aide disclosed this while conducting journalists round the scene of the attack.

Hemba told newsmen that a team of policemen found the fishermen close to the scene of the attack and are being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Benue State Government has insisted that Governor Samuel Ortom did not concoct the story of his attack by Fulani herdsmen, adding that the governor is ready to cooperate with special investigators, Naija News reports.
