The Saturday killing of farmers in Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists has attracted a reaction from the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres.

Guterres who condemned the gruesome murder of the farmers, commiserated with the families of the victims and demanded that the Nigerian government ensures perpetrators are brought to book.

He also prayed for a quick return of those abducted during the attack while he promised UN support to the Nigerian government in the fight against all forms of terrorism.

Naija News recalls that at least 43 rice farmers were brutally murdered in Zabarmari on Saturday by Boko Haram insurgents who attacked them while working on their farms.

The UN top official in his reaction to the development expressed hope that “those responsible for these heinous crimes will be quickly brought to justice”.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has submitted that Nigeria has been finding it difficult to fully overcome Boko Haram and other insurgents because it has not been able to acquire needed weapons to combat the insurgents.

The Minister who spoke on Monday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital added that the country may continue to be at the mercy of these terrorists until it gets the needed global support to acquire equipment and platforms to effectively wage the war.
