I planned my abduction to extort N500,000 – 18-year-old confesses

Imo State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Chisom Igbokwe, who planned his abduction in order to extort N500,000 from his grandfather.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, paraded Igbokwe alongside his three accomplices and other robbery, kidnapping, cult and murder suspects.

Ezike disclosed that the operatives of the command apprehended Igbokwe and his gang members – Solomon Chinonso, Chijioke Nnadi and Michael Nwaotu, after receiving an intelligent report.

He said, “On October 23, operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, acting on information, arrested the following suspects in connection with the fake kidnapping of Chisom Igbokwe on Spibat Road, Akwakuma in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

“The suspects have made useful statements confessing that they conspired to fake the kidnapping in order to collect ransom from his grandfather.”

The Police Commissioner disclosed that when the command realised that the abduction was staged, it had to play along in order to nab the four young men.

Igbokwe, who just finished his secondary school education confessed to the crime and regretted his action.
