Hoodlums allegedly blocked the vehicle of a Nigerian Army officer, assaulted him and his wife and dispossessed them of ₦300,000 in the Itire area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on October 4, according to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, who disclosed the development during a press briefing on notable operational successes recorded by the command in October, Naija News reports.

Fatai said the hoodlums blocked the officer’s vehicle before attacking him and his wife. They also allegedly vandalised the vehicle and made away with ₦300,000.

Following the incident, police operatives arrested Muhammad Garuba Alabi, who was identified as an alleged gang leader.

The police said Alabi had reportedly confessed to the offence, while efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang who fled after the incident.

The investigation is continuing.

The latest incident comes amid other police operations targeting suspected criminals and miscreants accused of attacking or harassing motorists in parts of Lagos.

In August, the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad arrested suspected miscreants and hoodlums allegedly terrorising motorists along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway during a midnight enforcement operation.

The operation followed an earlier arrest of about 25 persons accused of harassing motorists along the same corridor in March.

The suspects, described as “Omotaku”, were arrested during an evening patrol by enforcement teams monitoring activities along major routes in the area.
