The Kebbi State Government has approved a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for 17,620 teachers working across the state.

Naija News reports that the approval followed the adoption of the White Paper on the report of a committee established to review the state’s teaching workforce and examine the existing salary structure for teachers.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Kebbi State, Abubakar Zaki, disclosed that the new wage package is expected to take effect from October 2026.

Under the new arrangement, the affected teachers will receive at least ₦75,000 as their monthly minimum wage, following the government’s decision to approve the recommendations from the workforce audit and salary review exercise.

The teachers’ union also welcomed the decision, noting that the state government has continued to commit resources to the education sector.

As part of its efforts to improve education infrastructure, the state government has rehabilitated 2,650 schools and commenced the construction of 200 new schools across Kebbi State.

The union called on teachers to respond to the government’s efforts by improving their commitment to their duties and maintaining professionalism in the classroom.

It said the improved pay should encourage teachers to remain dedicated to educating pupils and supporting the development of the state’s education system.
