Manchester City Complete £116 Million Signing Of Elliot Anderson In British Record Transfer
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a British record transfer worth £116 million.
Elliot Anderson, a 23-year-old English midfielder, is now the most expensive British player in history, surpassing the £115 million deal that took Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in 2023.
The fee also makes Anderson City’s most expensive signing. Only Liverpool’s £125 million move for Alexander Isak and £116.5 million deal for Florian Wirtz have cost more among Premier League clubs.
Anderson remains with England at the FIFA World Cup after receiving permission to undergo his medical in Kansas between matches. He has started all four of England’s games at the tournament and is expected to return to Manchester once the campaign ends to complete the remaining formalities.
City announced the deal in a statement, saying: “Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for the transfer of Elliot Anderson.
“Anderson, 23, is currently competing at the FIFA World Cup with England and has completed a medical in Kansas. The formalities of the move will be finalised upon his return to England.
“In the meantime, everyone at Manchester City wishes Elliot and the England squad the very best of luck in their World Cup campaign and we look forward to welcoming him to Manchester in due course.”
Anderson enjoyed an outstanding Premier League season with Forest, featuring in every league match. He started 37 games, scored four goals and registered four assists, while finishing among the league’s top five players for tackles and passes.
The England international also becomes the first signing of City’s new era under head coach Enzo Maresca, who was appointed earlier this week following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
Once England’s World Cup campaign is over, Anderson will take a four-week break before joining his new teammates. He is not expected to travel on City’s pre-season tour of Asia, meaning his first appearance for the club could come in the Community Shield against Arsenal on August 16.
