Manchester City Confirm Appointment Of Enzo Maresca

Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager, with the Italian returning to the Etihad Stadium on a three-year contract to replace Pep Guardiola.

According to Sky in Italy, City will pay Chelsea more than £17 million in compensation to complete the deal.

Maresca, 46, is no stranger to the Premier League champions.

He worked as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2023 and also guided the club’s Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in the 2020/21 season.

Speaking after his appointment, Maresca said: “Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me.

“City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.

“This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations.

“The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.

“I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”

Maresca had been without a club since leaving Chelsea by mutual consent on New Year’s Day despite having three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

His only full season at Stamford Bridge ended on a high as he guided Chelsea to UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs while securing a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, an improvement from the club’s 10th-place finish the previous campaign.

He now takes over from Guardiola, who stepped down after a remarkable decade in charge.

During his tenure, the Spaniard delivered 17 major trophies, although City surrendered the 2025/26 Premier League title to Arsenal, marking the first time in Guardiola’s managerial career that he failed to win the league in successive seasons.
