Haaland Speaks On Norway’s 2026 World Cup Chances
Norway striker Erling Haaland has urged supporters to keep their feet on the ground despite the country’s impressive start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Manchester City forward delivered another match-winning display on Monday, scoring twice in Norway’s dramatic 3-2 win over Senegal to secure a place in the knockout stage.
While excitement is building around a team competing at their first World Cup in 28 years, Haaland insists simply reaching the latter stages already represents a major success.
Speaking after the thrilling win, the prolific striker offered a measured assessment of Norway’s achievements so far.
“To qualify for the first time in 28 years and go through the group stage I would say, yes (is a good World Cup). To win the World Cup, absolutely not,” Erling Haaland said.
“I think we should be realistic here and be happy for every single Norwegian on the planet (after this win).
“We’ve won 12 competitive games in a row now. I’m part of something special, making history and I’m extremely proud to be Norwegian.”
Norway’s resurgence has been driven largely by Haaland’s extraordinary form in front of goal.
The 25-year-old has now scored an astonishing 59 goals in just 52 appearances for his country, demonstrating his status as one of the most lethal forwards in world football.
His latest double against Senegal extended a remarkable scoring streak that has become central to Norway’s historic run. Haaland has found the net in each of Norway’s last 12 competitive matches, scoring 24 goals during that period.
He has also emerged as one of the standout performers of the 2026 World Cup, registering four goals in Norway’s opening two matches.
