Why I Quit Acting – Nollywood Actor, Deyemi Okanlawon
Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, has revealed that ‘nonsense pay’ made him quit acting in 2019.
Naija News reports Deyemi made the disclosure during his recent interview with the CreativiTea podcast.
Discussing his acting career and experience, Deyemi said he was not fulfilled by the work and had to return to his 9-5 work.
He said, “So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay was nonsense, the work was nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9 – 5 work to come and do mediocre work.
“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work.”
Meanwhile, Deyemi Okanlawon has shared details about how he handles pressure and where he gets emotional support when life becomes difficult.
He explained in an interview with Dear Ife that his wife is the first person he thinks about when things become too heavy for him, but he tries not to disturb her often because she is busy with her own work and also takes care of their home and family responsibilities.
The actor added that in rare moments when the stress becomes too much, he wakes her up at night to talk and get comfort.
Okanlawon also said he does not depend only on his wife.
He revealed that he has built a support circle that includes a therapist, mentors, and close friends he can talk to when he needs guidance or relief.
According to him, men should not carry all their problems alone because it can become too much for one person to handle.
