APC Group Endorses Sharafadeen Alli As Oyo Consensus Governorship Candidate (Video)

Some stakeholders within the Oyo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the consensus candidate to fly the party’s governorship ticket in the 2027 elections.

Naija News reports that the development was made known at a meeting attended by various stakeholders in the party.

The stakeholders insisted that with or without the conduct of direct primaries, Senator Alli has their backing.

Alli is the lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The lawmaker recently paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Naija News reports that the meeting, which took place in the evening, formed part of the President’s series of political engagements while observing the Easter break in Lagos.

Although the exact details of the discussion were not made public, the visit has generated political interest amid ongoing conversations about the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Meanwhile, Senator Alli has spoken against the decision of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to install him and two other high chiefs as Ibadan traditional rulers, even though they were not present at the event.

Naija News reports that the senator reacted after a video spread online showing him questioning how the process was carried out.

He argued that in Ibadan tradition, anyone being given a chieftaincy title is expected to be physically present during the ceremony.

According to him, doing it without the people involved goes against long-standing customs and makes the event look improper.

He said that in the past, traditional installations were never done in the absence of the selected individuals. He compared the situation to a practice where a person is treated without being present, saying it does not follow normal tradition. He also described the event as looking more like a staged show rather than a proper traditional gathering.
