Sutton Slams Kelechi Iheanacho After Celtic Stumble Against Dundee United

Former Chris Sutton has urged Kelechi Iheanacho to raise his game at Celtic FC following a disappointing showing in the club’s weekend defeat to Dundee United.

Celtic fell 2-0 in the league clash, with Iheanacho’s performance coming under scrutiny. Sutton, speaking on the Record Celtic podcast, did not hold back in his assessment of the Super Eagles forward.

“It just shows you what a mess, what a muddle Celtic are in. And that’s not ideal. I’ve seen a lot of stuff online, people saying, well, he’s our best striker, Iheanacho,” Sutton said.

The former striker, who enjoyed a prolific spell at Celtic, questioned the Nigerian’s overall contribution, particularly his work rate and positioning.

“But I still think he’s miles off it. I think he does some good things in terms of his link up is OK at times. But I think there were times, and having played that position, I do know a little bit about centre forward play, I think there were times in the first half where he was just downright lazy,” he added.

Sutton also pointed to missed opportunities to press and compete for forward balls, noting that Iheanacho failed to put himself in positions to challenge effectively.

“And he didn’t work hard enough when balls were being played forward to actually get in a position where he could even be challenging for a ball and a knockdown,” he said.
