Late Fitness Call For Kelechi Iheanacho As Celtic F.C. Striker Faces Aberdeen Test

Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Kelechi Iheanacho will undergo a late fitness test before a decision is made on his availability for Aberdeen F.C.’s Scottish League clash.

Martin O’Neill said the forward’s condition remains uncertain and that medical staff will assess him before kick-off. O’Neill acknowledged concerns over Iheanacho’s match fitness but did not rule out his inclusion in the squad.

“I don’t think he’s played that much during the course of the season,” O’Neill said. “It’s just in terms of full fitness and things, that’s a bit of a concern.”

Iheanacho has not started a match for Celtic F.C. since October after suffering a hamstring problem. Although he returned to action in December, opportunities have been limited under successive managers.

The Nigerian striker joined Celtic on a free transfer in the summer but has struggled to secure regular minutes. He has shown moments of quality and scored goals, yet has not convinced the coaching staff to make him a first-choice option.

O’Neill left the door open for a return, noting that every player could play a role as the season progresses. However, Iheanacho’s contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign, and Celtic are yet to indicate whether they will activate an extension clause.

A decision on his participation against Aberdeen will be made following the late fitness check.
