Super Falcons Hit Back To Beat Cameroon 3-1 In Yaounde Friendly
The Super Falcons of Nigeria roared back to winning ways on Tuesday night, brushing aside the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 3-1 in Yaounde to square their two-match friendly series.
Three days after falling to a narrow defeat at the Military Stadium, the nine-time African champions returned to the same ground with more determination.
Cameroon struck first again. A seventh-minute effort stunned Nigeria and briefly revived memories of Saturday’s setback. But the response was swift and assured.
In the 32nd minute, Chinwendu Ihezuo hauled Nigeria level. The forward rose highest inside the box to bury a firm header from Rinsola Babajide’s inviting cross. The equaliser settled the visitors and shifted momentum.
Babajide was not done. Two minutes before the break, she reacted quickest after a goalmouth scramble and drilled home to complete the turnaround.
Head Coach Justin Madugu, who made seven changes to the side beaten at the weekend, got the reaction he demanded. His remodelled midfield pressed with intent, shut down central channels and forced Cameroon into defensive play.
The Falcons stayed sharp after the restart. In 64 minutes, captain Rasheedat Ajibade surged down the right and whipped in a dangerous cross. Michelle Alozie met it full stretch, powering a flying header beyond the goalkeeper to seal the game at 3-1.
Both sides are using the friendlies to fine-tune their preparations for the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3.
