32 Countries Confirm Places At 2026 FIFA World Cup, 16 Slots Left

The list of teams heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking shape, with 32 countries already securing their places in next year’s tournament.

Norway became the most recent side to cross the line after a commanding 4-1 win over Italy in their qualifying fixture on Sunday night. Erling Haaland struck twice, while Antonio Nusa and Jørgen Strand Larsen added their names to the scoresheet in a match that silenced the San Siro and pushed the Italians into deeper trouble.

The United States, Mexico and Canada had earlier claimed automatic tickets as co-hosts of the expanded World Cup, which will feature 48 teams for the first time.

Below is the full list of nations that are already confirmed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup:

Host nations: United States, Canada, Mexico

Asia: Uzbekistan, Australia, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea

Africa: Algeria, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia

Europe: Norway, France, Portugal, Croatia, England

Oceania: New Zealand

South America: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay

There are 16 places still open, and the competition for them is expected to grow even fiercer as the qualifying series moves into its final stretch.

Naija News reports that the latest round of fixtures delivered an especially bitter blow to the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Cameroon.

Both countries were knocked out during the CAF playoffs in Morocco, ending their hopes of featuring in next year’s tournament. Their exit also means they will not take part in the intercontinental playoff event scheduled for March 2026, which will decide two more spots.

CONCACAF still has three available slots, while UEFA has eleven to be filled through its remaining matches.
