Barcelona Secure Future Of Marc Bernal With New Deal Plus €1bn Release Clause

Barcelona have officially tied down one of their brightest young prospects, Marc Bernal, to a new long-term deal that runs until June 2029.

Marc Bernal, 18, signed the contract on Monday morning, September 29, at the club’s offices, with president Joan Laporta, first vice-president Rafael Yuste and football director Deco all present to witness the occasion.

The club confirmed the extension in a short statement: “Marc Bernal Extends Contract Until 2029. The midfielder signed a new contract at the club’s offices this Monday.”

Although Barcelona did not provide financial details, several Spanish outlets reported that the contract includes a staggering €1 billion release clause. This figure, often used by the club to safeguard their most valuable assets, shows how highly the Catalans rate Bernal’s potential.

Bernal has drawn praise for his composure on the ball and his ability to dictate play from midfield, qualities that echo the traditions of Barcelona’s most celebrated academy graduates. Many fans already see him as part of the club’s next generation, and the new deal ensures that he remains central to their long-term plans.

This development is coming amid a series of injury setbacks at the club in recent days. Naija News reports that the club’s goalkeeper, Joan García, and the club’s talismanic winger, Raphinha have been sidelined due to fitness issues.

The club announced on Friday morning that García suffered an injury in training and will undergo surgery on Saturday, performed by Dr Joan Carles Monllau, the same surgeon who operated on Gavi earlier this year.

Also, the club announced that Raphinha had picked up a hamstring injury in his right leg. Barcelona said the Brazilian forward will be sidelined for about three weeks.
