The President was received at the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport in Bissau, the nation’s capital, on Thursday morning by Soarez Sambu, a senior Minister and Chief of Staff to President Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

Guinea-Bissau marked its 50th Independence Anniversary on September 24, 2023, but the government had scheduled all celebrations for November 16, 2023.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja on Thursday, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.

Tinubu’s Govt Reduces Charges Against Ex-CBN Gov Emefiele

President Bola Tinubu-led government has reduced to six counts the fraud charges it filed against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Naija News understands that the charges, bordering on alleged procurement, were originally 20.

The Federal Government, in the charges, alleged that the procurement fraud was to the tune of N6.5bn.

The original charges were first filed in August.

According to Punch, the amended charge sheet marked CR/577/2023 showed that the charges still border on procurement fraud, but the counts have been reduced from 20 to six.

Also, the quantum of the alleged procurement fraud was reduced from N6.9bn to N1.2bn. Emefiele is the only defendant in the new charge.

The defendants were scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. However, the matter could not proceed due to the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress strike.

In the amended charge sheet, the Federal Government alleged that Emefiele illegally bought 43 vehicles between 2018 and 2020 worth N1.2bn.

The former CBN governor was accused of giving a corrupt advantage to Yaro by awarding a contract for the procurement of 37 Toyota Hilux Vehicles valued at N854m.
