There was palpable tension in Rivers State on Tuesday when a ValueJet CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft overshot the runway at the Port-Harcourt International Airport.

Naija News gathered that the incident caused momentary panic and chaos among passengers of the aircraft, which landed at 15.32 hours with 62 passengers and five flight crew members.

However, despite the alarming situation, the aircraft with registration 5N-BXR landed safely, leaving passengers perplexed about the unusual occurrence.

It was learned that the incident did not result in any damage to the aircraft or the death of any of the passengers and crew members.

Reacting to the development in a chat with Vanguard, the Managing Director of ValueJet, Capt. Dapo Majekodunmi explained that the slip resulted from algae on the taxiway, preventing the aircraft from maintaining the centerline.

Assuring the public of ValueJet’s commitment to safety, Majekodunmi stated that the airline’s operations remain normal without disruptions.

Nationwide Strike: Lawmakers Locked Out As NLC Shutdown National Assembly

Nigerian lawmakers were locked out of their offices on Tuesday following the closure of the National Assembly complex by officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in compliance with the nationwide industrial action.

Naija News reports that in protest of the attack on its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Imo State, human and vehicular movements were prevented from entering the Complex.

Members of the two Chambers and the Staff of the National Assembly, journalists and others were locked out as the entrances into the Complex were locked.

However, after hot arguments, the officials of Organised Labour opened one of the gates for reporters, during which few others struggled into the Complex.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, both Chambers of the National Assembly are yet to be opened, creating the fears that plenary may not hold for a while.

One of the officials of the Parliamentary Association of Nigeria, PASSAN, NASS Branch, told newsmen that the directive of the NLC on the ongoing strike action was being effected at NASS.
