The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jones Onyereri, has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s decision to announce the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, as the winner of the November 11 governorship election in the state, despite series of irregularities recorded during the election.

Faulting the election umpire while speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Monday morning, Onyeriri said that INEC National Chairman Mahmood Yakubu should have brought the collation of results to a halt after noticing that the results announced at the Imo collation center did not tally with the number of accredited voters that was available on the IReV.

“The challenge that I have is that the National Chairman was watching this, he saw zero accreditation, he saw it, he saw overvoted votes, why would he allow them to continue collating,” Onyereri asked.

Onyereri further alleged that evidence showed that a presiding officer was made to sign the election result sheet under duress.

Naija News recalls that INEC had, in the early hours of Sunday, declared Governor Hope Uzodimma, the winner of the November 11 governorship election that was held in the state.

Uzodimma won all the 27 local governments, polling a total of 523,817 to defeat PDP’s Sam Anyawu, who polled 71,503.
