Court Stops NLC, TUC Nationwide Strike

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) on Friday issued an order of interim injunction stopping members of organised labour, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliates from proceeding with the nationwide strike scheduled to commence on November 14.

Naija News reports that the president of the court, Justice Benedict Kanyip, issued the order on Friday while ruling on an ex-parte application.

The application was brought before the court by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) on behalf of the Federal Government and argued by Tijani Gazali (SAN), Acting Director (Civil Appeals), Federal Ministry of Justice.

Justice Kanyip said the order shall subsist until the determination of a motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions equally filed by the AGF.

Enugu Guber: Appeal Court Upholds Peter Mbah’s Victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has upheld the election of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Enugu State.

A three-man panel of the appeal court delivered the judgment in a case filed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chijioke Edeoga.

The court affirmed the judgment of the Enugu Tribunal delivered on September 9, 2023, by the Hon. Justice K.M. Akano-led tribunal.

All three issues subject to the appeal were resolved in favour of Mbah.

The three-member panel led by Justice Tijani Yusuf Hassan held that the appellant failed to prove that Mbah forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate and was not qualified to contest the election.

‘I Was Arrested By The Police And Handed Over To Thugs Who Beat Me Like A Criminal’ – NLC President, Ajaero Reveals What Happened In Imo

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero has narrated his experience in Imo State following the assault on him during a planned protest on workers’ condition in the state.

Speaking on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, Ajaero disclosed that he was arrested by Police operatives in Imo State.

The NLC President added that it was the Police who then handed him over to thugs who beat him severely and dragged him on the ground.

According to him, he was dragged on the ground by the thugs numbering about seven.

He added that some of the workers who arrived early at the venue of the protest on that day around 7 am were beaten up by thugs with their phones seized.

IGP Orders Investigation Into Alleged Brutalization Of NLC President, Ajaero

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Friday, ordered investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on the President of the National Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Announcing the development in a statement made on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed that the IGP had ordered the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to take over the matter with the primary objective of ascertaining the facts surrounding the incident and to address any ambiguities that may exist.

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on the person of the President of the National Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

“Consequently, he has directed the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to take over the matter with the primary objective of ascertaining the facts surrounding the incident and to address any ambiguities that may exist as the Police has been inundated with different versions of the incident making investigations imperative to clear the conflicting accounts,” the statement by Adejobi read.

Police Teargas Protesting Women Demanding Removal Of Bayelsa CP Ahead Of Saturday’s Election (Video)

Women who stormed the Yenagoa, Bayelsa command headquarters demanding the resignation of the State Commissioner of Police, Tolani Alausa have been dispersed by operatives of the command.

For the sake of neutrality, the female protestors demanded on Friday that Alausa be removed before the off-cycle governorship election on Saturday.

To guarantee a peaceful election, the women, dressed in black, requested that President Bola Tinubu and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun remove the CP.

However, the women’s unwillingness to leave the facility if their demands were not satisfied led to their dispersal using tear gas.

In a recent interview on Arise News, Baba-Ahmed stated that even though he respects President Tinubu, he would not stop addressing him as a drug dealer.

Reacting in a post via his X handle on Thursday, Fani-Kayode stated that he was not surprised by the comment made by Baba-Ahmed because he is “an embittered creature and sorry soul”.

The former minister stated that five months after the 2023 presidential election, Baba-Ahmed, alongside his principal, Peter Obi, and their supporters, have not been able to get over their loss at the polls and are still suffering from the pain.

Nigeria’s First Female Major-General, Aderonke Kale Is Dead

Nigeria’s first female Major-General, Aderonke Kale (Rtd), is dead.

Naija News learnt that Kale died in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 84 on Wednesday from an undisclosed ailment.

The demise was also confirmed by the president of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), in a statement, describing her passing as an “irreparable loss.”

Kale, a Nigerian army psychiatrist, was born on February 13, 1939, and became the first female major-general in the Nigerian Army.

She rose to command the Nigerian Army Medical Corps.

Kale trained as a medical doctor at University College, which later became the University of Ibadan. She specialized in psychiatry at the University of London.

Full List Of Nominations For 2024 Grammy Award

Organizers have released the full list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards.

The list for the 66th award ceremony was released on the evening of Friday, November 10, 2023.

Naija News reports the 2024 Grammy will recognise recordings released from October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023.
